DESCRIPTION
Amazon's Legal Department is looking for a talented technology and commercial lawyer based in Seoul, Korea, to support Amazon Web Services, a dynamic and rapidly growing business within Amazon.com. Amazon Web Services is at the forefront of the "cloud" computing and service industry providing IT infrastructure services such as on-demand compute capacity, storage, content delivery, database services, and more.
This attorney will be the lead counsel for AWS in Korea, primarily supporting Korean sales and marketing initiatives, and reporting into the Asia Pacific regional counsel in Singapore. The successful candidate will be part of the AWS Korean leadership team and provide legal advice to senior management and other business team members in relation to contracts, marketing activities and local legal, regulatory and compliance requirements. This attorney will be responsible for reviewing, drafting and negotiating commercial and IT service agreements, as well as marketing and sponsorship agreements including high value or strategic agreements with enterprise customers and partners. The successful candidate will be expected to participate in other Amazon legal projects, and manage legal issues that arise in AWS’s commercial relationships, including by handling pre-litigation legal disputes and inquiries, and working proactively with local regulators.
The successful candidate must be a self-starter, enthusiastic about technology, enjoy working hard and being continually challenged, and demonstrate sound judgment even in ambiguous situations. Compensation will be based on experience and includes equity compensation.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
- Law degree (J.D. or equivalent) from a leading university and/or law school.
- Licensed to practice law in Korea, or the U.S., or other common law jurisdiction.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills and the ability to communicate and draft fluently in English and Korean.
- A minimum of 7 years of legal experience, including strong transactional and negotiation experience gained at a leading law firm and/or in-house at a major multinational technology corporation. Candidates with more experience are encouraged to apply.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience working in a customer-focused sales and marketing environment.
- Experience working with regulators.
- Understanding of intellectual property, competition & consumer law and privacy issues.
- Background in software or IT licensing, outsourcing, web services/cloud computing or telecommunications.
